Snaking punches a hole through a clog. Hydro jetting scrubs the pipe wall back to full diameter. High-pressure water strips grease, sludge, scale, and root growth out of drain and sewer lines, so the same blockage stops returning every few months.
PowerRoute Electric & Plumbing hydro jets residential main lines, branch drains, commercial sewer lines, and restaurant grease lines throughout Los Angeles County. Every job starts with a camera inspection, because pressure belongs nowhere near a pipe we have not looked inside first. For everything else on your property, explore our complete plumbing services.

A cleared drain and a clean drain are two different results.
A cable auger bores an opening through the blockage. Water flows again, so the drain looks fixed. The grease ring, scale, and sludge coating the pipe wall stay exactly where they were, and the opening closes again in weeks or months.
Hydro jetting runs a high-pressure hose upstream through the line. Rear-facing jets pull the hose forward and drive water back down the pipe at the wall, cutting buildup loose and flushing debris out through the cleanout. The line finishes at its original inside diameter.
PowerRoute hydro jets:
Buildup returning within months is a maintenance signal. Water appearing where no clog exists is a different problem. Our leak detection services pinpoint the source before any repair work starts.
Pressure is matched to the pipe, not to the clog. PowerRoute works in a 1,500 to 4,000 PSI range, and flow rate does as much of the work as pressure does. Working pressure on any line depends on pipe diameter, material, and condition, on the blockage itself, and on nozzle selection.
Sound residential pipe of 2 to 4 inches takes 8 to 10 GPM at 3,500 to 4,000 PSI. Larger 8 to 12 inch mains need 18 to 20 GPM, because volume carries debris out while pressure alone leaves it sitting in the line.
Typical settings:
Older material takes lower pressure. Cast iron thins from the inside as it corrodes, and clay cracks at the joints. We drop pressure and watch the camera through the pass instead of trusting one setting.
The head on the end of the hose decides what the water does. Grease lines also need heat, because cold water moves grease rather than removing it.
Cold water blasts grease off the wall and the grease hardens again 20 feet downstream. Heated jetting sends the fat out of the system instead of relocating it inside. For an active backup, contact our emergency plumbing services.
Snaking is faster and cheaper, and plenty of clogs need nothing more. Reach for jetting when the blockage is the symptom and buildup is the cause.
A cable auger suits a single, localized obstruction with no history behind it. Best for the following:
A cable clears a path through grease. It leaves the grease on the pipe wall, which is why the clog returns.
High-pressure water suits buildup coating the pipe wall and any clog with a repeat history. Best for the following:
A line snaked last month and slowing again has buildup, not an obstruction.
See the full method comparison on our drain cleaning services page, or read how we handle commercial plumbing for larger properties.
Jetting an unknown pipe is guesswork with 4,000 PSI attached. We scope first, every time, then scope again once the line is clean.
A camera pass shows:
01
02
03
04
05
06
07
08
The second pass matters as much as the first. Scale and grease hide cracks and root entry points, so a clean line finally shows the true condition of the pipe. You see the footage and decide on repair with real information instead of a guess.
Hydro jetting is safe on sound pipe. On compromised pipe, pressure finds every weakness. Any contractor quoting a jetting price before scoping your line is guessing with your plumbing. These conditions change the answer:
Cast Iron Over 40 Years
Corrosion thins the wall from the inside while scale seals the pinholes. Strip the scale and the pinholes open. We scope first, drop pressure, and monitor the camera during the pass.
Clay Tile With Root Intrusion
Roots entered through a crack or a shifted joint. Cutting them restores flow and leaves the opening, so growth returns until the section is repaired.
Orangeburg Pipe
Tar-impregnated wood fiber, common in mid-century construction, deforms and delaminates with age. Orangeburg gets replaced, never jetted.
Cracked or Crushed PVC
Sound PVC handles full pressure. Damaged sections do not, and close-range work with a focused nozzle makes the damage worse.
Collapsed or Bellied Lines
Water pooling in a sag returns after every cleaning because the slope is wrong. Removing debris does not change the slope, so the fix is repair rather than another jetting appointment.
Pumping the interceptor empties the tank. It does nothing for the 40 feet of pipe between your three-compartment sink and that tank, and grease coats the whole run. Kitchens pass inspection on the trap and still back up through the floor drain during dinner service.
Grease reaches every line downstream of a cooking or washing fixture:
Grease handling in the City of Los Angeles falls under LAMC 64.30, administered by LA Sanitation. Permit, interceptor, and recordkeeping duties depend on the establishment. Treat the points below as general orientation, then follow your own permit and LA Sanitation requirements:
We jet before open, after close, or on your dark day. A grease line failure at 7pm costs a night of covers plus the emergency call. PowerRoute already serves restaurants across Los Angeles through our restaurant electrician and hospitality plumbing teams, and handles property-wide scope through commercial plumbing services.
Frequency follows what the camera shows and what the line has done in the past. Use these as planning starting points, then adjust to your line history.
Preventive jetting costs a fraction of an after-hours backup, and it comes with a scope of the line. When repeated cleaning only buys time, sewer line repair, trenchless replacement, or pipe repair and repiping is often the cheaper path.
Cost follows line size, access, buildup severity, and pipe condition. General Los Angeles market ranges:
Kitchen or branch drain line:
Residential main sewer line:
$350 to $550, rising to $450 to $750 with heavy roots or hardened grease
Commercial and restaurant lines:
and up, plus $100 to $200 for camera inspection when not included
Pricing moves with:
These are general market ranges, not fixed PowerRoute pricing. We confirm scope and price after the camera inspection, before work starts.
Camera inspection identifies pipe material, condition, buildup type, and the location of the restriction.
Pipe in poor structural condition gets a repair recommendation instead of a pressure quote.
Pressure, flow, and nozzle head are matched to pipe material, diameter, and buildup. Grease lines get heated water.
The hose runs upstream to the far end of the section, then works back toward the cleanout so debris flushes out rather than packing forward.
A second camera pass confirms full diameter and shows any defect the buildup was covering.
You see the footage. Cracks, offsets, bellies, or failing pipe come with clear options and a timeline.
Schedule hydro jetting when you notice:
Snaking that holds for a year points to a one-time obstruction. Snaking that fails in a month points to buildup on the pipe wall.
Pressure goes nowhere near your line until we know its material, age, and condition.
Cast iron, clay, and PVC get different settings. One pressure for every job damages pipe.
We work restaurant grease lines across Los Angeles and schedule around service hours.
When jetting only buys time, we say so and price the repair instead.

I haven’t personally hired PowerRoute Electric for their services, but I’ve worked alongside them on several jobs over the past year and a half before it was out to the public. From what I’ve seen firsthand, they take their work seriously. They show up on time, communicate clearly, and put effort into getting the job done right. Their team is respectful and seems to care about doing things the right way, not just the fast way. They’re not perfect—no company is—but they’ve consistently shown up and done what they said they would, which goes a long way in this line of work. If you’re considering hiring them, based on what I’ve experienced working with them on-site, they’re reliable and professional. I’d trust them on a job of my own.Posted on Google![]()
